Once again, you'll appreciate the fact that today's activities will start a little later.
Remember, this is a vacation.
After a hearty fully catered breakfast you meet your local English-speaking Egyptologist for the drive toward Islamic Cairo.
You'll visit the newly refurbished Tahrir Square in all its modern glory basting an obelisk as a centerpiece, and the façade of the original Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East as you head toward the recently refurbished Abdeen Palace.
Historic Abdeen Palace was built as one of the official residences for the former ruling monarchy and royal family of Egypt. It is now one of the official residences and the principal workplace of the President of Egypt. Not open to the public, we have made special arrangements for a private two-hour tour for our guests. Not unlike the Palace of Versailles on the outskirts of Paris, this excursion is sure to delight you.
After a break for lunch at a local traditional restaurant, your journey continues toward the Citadel, a medieval fort within which walls you visit the Mosque of Muhammed Ali to learn more about this magnificent alabaster masterpiece. From this elevation in the city, you'll enjoy one of the most spellbinding panoramic views of Cairo.
Later, towards evening, as you enter the Fatimid city gate into the walled city and stroll along the length of El Moez Street, you feel the city come alive.
It's here where you discover the true essence of the Islamic civilization. This is one of the most amazing streets in all of Cairo; a true representation of a past Cairo when merchants haggled their wares to an enthusiastic crowd of shoppers. Between the Al-Hussain Mosque, Mosque of Fatima Mother of the Boy, and Mosque of Sultan Al-Ashraf Barsbay, you come face-to-face with the Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
It's a feast for the senses. Around every corner you'll find another surprise. Another kaleidoscope of color. The scents of spices and incense. An aroma of strongly brewed coffee. All intertwined with a dizzying array of merchandise to satisfy the shopper in all of us.
Dinner is arranged this evening at an exotic location in Cairo overlooking the mighty Nile River. It is slated to be a magnificent grand finale to a perfect production - Cairo by night from an elevated location is quite simply a breathtaking sight to see and a befitting final spectacle to a perfect journey,
